FAQ

Questions, answered straight.

No. RipCo is an extra pair of eyes, not a verdict on the water. Lifeguards and the red and yellow flags are the standard you swim by. The app exists to back them up and warn you earlier, never to replace them.

Every detection carries a confidence percentage, and that is a reading, not a promise. RipCo can miss rips and can flag features that are not rips. Nothing in the app is ever presented as an all-clear, so treat every session as though a rip could be present.

Detection needs a usable camera image. At night, in heavy rain or in strong glare, detection quality drops or becomes unavailable, and the app says so plainly rather than guessing. Conditions data remains available, and the rules do not change: flags and lifeguards first.

RipCo starts at Manly Beach and is built to scale to other Australian beaches. Coverage depends on a beach having a public camera feed the app can read.

Only if you allow it, and only to show beaches near you. You can search for any beach without sharing your location. Location access is never required.

RipCo keeps data to a minimum. The cameras are public feeds that already exist, and the model reads the water surface, not people. Early access asks for your email only, and it is used to contact you about RipCo, nothing else.

Yes. RipCo is a free consumer app, with no subscription and no tiers. It will launch free on the App Store.
